Entrepreneurship, forced displacement, economic inclusion

Gilda Borriello

Research Student

I specialise in constrained entrepreneurship with a mixed methods research on the entrepreneurial behaviour of Syrian refugees in Jordan and Turkey. With a background in Middle East studies, economic migration, and labour economics from the University of Naples L’Orientale and the University of Bologna, Italy, I have been working for the World Bank for 10 years on themes related to urban refugees in the Middle East and private sector-led practices for refugees’ socioeconomic inclusion. Now based in Amman, Jordan, I manage to juggle work, family life, and research thanks to my passion for the analysis of forced migration. My research interests include entrepreneurship in constrained and resource-scarce contexts, the economic activities of urban refugees, inclusion of vulnerable populations, and economic strategies of displaced entrepreneurs including internally displaced persons and returning refugees.
