The newly released 2026 global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) finds that across 108 countries, 1.2 billion people live in multidimensional poverty, facing compounding hardships of deprivations in health, education and standard of living indicators.
The global MPI is released each year by OPHI and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The 2026 update finds that the number of people living in multidimensional poverty has risen for the first time since the index was launched in 2010. It reveals that more than half of the 1.2 billion, 617 million, are children, and 83 percent live in rural areas. Yet it also shows that many countries continue to make progress, with some reducing poverty rapidly and at scale.
Join us in this seminar to hear more about the key findings of the statistical update, and how together they point to both the urgency of renewed action and the possibility of success in eradicating poverty in all its dimensions.
