Zainaab Basil

Advisors and Networks Coordinator, TIDE

Zainaab is TIDE’s Advisors and Networks Coordinator, where she manages relationships across the organisation’s global network of senior research advisors and supports the design and delivery of advisory committees. Her work focuses on strengthening collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to ensure TIDE’s work is both rigorous and policy-relevant.

She is currently reading for an MPhil in Development Studies at the Oxford Department of International Development. Her research examines the political economy of the solar power transition in rural Punjab, Pakistan, with a focus on the inclusivity, governance, and long-term sustainability of green energy transitions in the Global South. She is particularly interested in how large-scale energy shifts impact economically vulnerable communities and the extent to which transitions can be made equitable and consistent across different contexts.

Zainaab holds a BA in History and Politics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Prior to joining TIDE, she worked on research and policy initiatives related to development, governance, and energy transitions, with a regional focus on South Asia.
