Nihar Gokhale
Nihar Gokhale is a DPhil student in International Development at the Oxford Department of International Development. His doctoral research examines India’s national renewable energy program from an interdisciplinary perspective. Drawing on political economy, environmental politics, and science and technology studies, he explores how states envision and implement renewable energy transitions, how stakeholders align around these visions, and how renewable energy infrastructures materialise political power.
Before beginning his doctorate, Nihar worked for over a decade as a longform and investigative journalist in India. He reported on environmental policy, climate change, land conflicts, and economic policy, with his work appearing in major publications including Scroll.in, The Wire, The Caravan, Indiaspend, and The Hindu. He has served as Associate Editor at Land Conflict Watch, and as Editor (Chaos) at The Morning Context.
Nihar holds an MSc in Economics, with a specialisation in environment and resource economics, from the TERI School of Advanced Studies in New Delhi, India.
