Amos Schonfield wins the Vice Chancellor’s Social Impact Highly Commended Award
ODID would like to congratulate Amos Schonfield, MSc in Migration Studies student, who received the Vice Chancellor’s Social Impact Highly Commended Award for Volunteering in 2019.
The Vice-Chancellor's Social Impact Awards are presented every year to Oxford University students who show exceptional achievement and commitment to positive social change.
Amos was recognised for his work in running Our Second Home, a youth movement for refugees & asylum seekers in the UK aiming to empower and develop young leaders. Through residential camps, Our Second Home members develop their leadership skills in a nurturing and supportive environment, and they’re just about to go into their second summer residential.
‘I'm so grateful for the recognition from the University and Oxford Hub. Running a social action project while studying here has been a challenge and to be awarded alongside the other amazing activists means a lot,’ said Amos, who founded Our Second Home in 2017.
‘I set up Our Second Home because I believe in the immense potential of young refugees and migrants and the capacity for a youth movement to help take the next step in the journeys. I came to ODID after we piloted our project because I wanted to learn more about the drivers of migration and the debates around integration.’
We congratulate Amos on his excellent achievement.
