Department Welcomes Mathias Czaika, Tom Scott-Smith as New Associate Professors

The department is delighted to announce that it has appointed two new associate professors.

Mathias Czaika is Associate Professor of Migration and Development. His research examines the political economy of migration and the role of migration policies in shaping international migration flows.

He has a PhD in Political Economy from the University of Freiburg and a Diploma in Economics from the University of Konstanz. He has been at ODID, as Research Officer and then Senior Research Officer at the International Migration Institute (IMI), since 2010.

Tom Scott-Smith is Associate Professor of Refugee Studies and Forced Migration. He specialises in the ethnographic and historical study of humanitarian relief and its impact on the lives of refugees.

He holds an MPhil and DPhil from the University of Oxford. He was previously Lecturer at the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies at the University of Bristol and Senior Scholar at Lincoln College, Oxford.
