Elif Bayat

Visitor

Elif Bayat is currently a visitor at the Oxford Department of International Development.

Elif graduated as a Clarendon Scholar with an MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy from the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on diplomatic studies, the United Nations, and German foreign policy.

Prior to Oxford, Elif obtained a BA in Sociology and Political Science from Goethe University Frankfurt, graduating at the top of her class. She has undertaken research stays in Paris and Istanbul and was a Fulbright Scholar in the United States. Elif has worked with several institutions, including the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York, the German Bundestag in Berlin, the Goethe-Institut in Cairo, and the German Research Foundation in Washington, DC. She currently serves as a committee member of the Oxford Network of Peace Studies (OxPeace) and as Communications Secretary of the Clarendon Scholars Council.

In addition to her academic work, Elif Bayat was selected to join the official German delegation to the World Climate Conference in Brazil (2025), where she serves as a youth delegate representing over 20 million young people from Germany. Her engagement builds on her previous role as a German negotiator at the G20 Youth Summit in India, driven by her commitment to ensuring that young people can institutionally articulate and advance their interests in international negotiations.
