Dr M Riad El-Ghonemy, an Honorary Associate of ODID, has been awarded the 2012 State Prize in Social Science by the Department of Agricultural Economics at Ain Shams University, Cairo.

The prize is awarded in recognition of Dr El-Ghonemy's distinguished contribution and his valuable publications both in English and in Arabic.

Dr El-Ghonemy worked for 28 years for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations before his retirement in 1985.

Dr El-Ghonemy generously supports ODID through the Riad El-Ghonemy Graduate Fieldwork Fund. The fund helps ensure students are able to gain practical fieldwork experience to support their academic research.
