ODS Sanjaya Lall Prize 2011 Awarded to Niraja Jayal Gopal

The Oxford Development Studies Sanjaya Lall Prize 2011 has been awarded to Niraja Jayal Gopal for her article entitled "A False Dichotomy? The Unresolved Tension between Universal and Differentiated Citizenship in India" published in ODS 39 (2): 185-204

ODS Managing Editor Frances Stewart said the article was a "well-researched, historically informed and subtle presentation of a complex and important issue".

Professor Jayal is chair of the Centre for the Study of Law and Governance at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India.

The Sanjaya Lall Prize is awarded annually for the best article published in the previous year's volume. ODS also awards a £1,000 prize every other year for the best article published by a student in the previous two volumes.

The prizes are named in honour of the late Sanjaya Lall, who was Professor of Economics at Oxford University and formerly Managing Editor of ODS.
