GGD students meet Canadian High Commissioner, Romanian Ambassador

Students of the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy were welcomed by the High Commissioner for Canada and the Romanian Ambassador during a visit to hear their insights about diplomatic practice in London this month.

The students met High Commissioner for Canada Ralph E Goodale at the Canadian High Commission to discuss his career in politics and diplomacy. He outlined some of the key aspects of Canadian diplomacy, including multiculturalism, humanitarianism, feminist foreign policy, intelligence and information-gathering.

Ambassador of Romania Laura Popescu also received the students at the Romanian Embassy where they discussed the challenges of digital diplomacy, reconciling national and EU interests, and the role of gender in the diplomatic field.

The Romanian Embassy also hosted the launch of the new Oxford Handbook of Digital Diplomacy, edited by Associate Professor Corneliu Bjola and former ODID DPhil student Ilan Manor, in an event moderated by Federico Bianchi, Head of Press & Public Diplomacy for the EU Delegation to the UK.

The book, the first to examine digital diplomacy as a practice, a process and a form of disruption, provides historic analysis and explores future challenges, using case studies from Europe, the Global South, the Middle East, and North America.
