Dr Pailey’s speech will put Critical Development Studies in fluid conversation with Critical Race Studies in an examination of how scholars, policymakers and practitioners have succeeded and failed in subverting the ‘white gaze’ of development.

The DSA Conference will take place at the Open University, Milton Keynes, and it will focus on ‘Opening up Development’, drawing attention to new forms of development intervention and activism, and the call to decolonise teaching and learning of development studies.  

Dr Pailey is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at ODID, where she conducts research on race, citizenship, 'South-South' migration and development cooperation in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
