Young Lives Shortlisted for Prestigious Civil Service Award

We are delighted to announce that Young Lives, one of the largest international studies of childhood poverty, has been shortlisted in the Analysis and Use of Evidence category of the prestigious 2013 Civil Service Awards, which will be announced at an award ceremony in London this evening.

Young Lives is funded by the UK’s Department for International Development to develop a better understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty for children – and more importantly, what can be done about it.

The study team based at ODID and led by Professor Jo Boyden, is working alongside local research teams in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam, to carry out a complex survey of 12,000 children and their households over 15 years. The information they gather is incorporated into a large dataset, now containing information on the children lives at the ages of 1, 5, 8, 12 and 15, and which is currently accessed by over 1,000 researchers worldwide.
