Young Lives Photo Gallery Marks First 'International Day of the Girl'
Young Lives has created an online photo gallery to mark the inaugural International Day of the Girl, which seeks to raise awareness of the situation of girls around the world.
The photo gallery also provides key messages on education and gender drawing on Young Lives research. This has examined the ways in which gender shapes the life chances of both boys and girls and their progression through schooling and finds that the story is not a straightforward tale of girls being disadvantaged. Changing economic, social and cultural contexts force children and families living in poverty to negotiate a series of competing demands, which can have different consequences for boys and girls.
Today also sees the launch of the latest 'Because I am a Girl' report from Plan with a focus on learning for life.
