TMCD signs new MoU with Chinese Academy of Science to continue research collaboration

ODID’s Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD) has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese Academy of Science to continue a successful collaboration which since 2013 has resulted in a series of research outputs in the areas of innovation policy, science and technology strategy.

The new MoU was signed at ODID on 7 June.

TMCD Director Professor Xiaolan Fu warmly welcomed the CAS delegation led by Counsellor Minister Liu Weiping, CAS Vice President, and Professor Jiaofeng Pan, Director of the Bureau of Planning and Strategy at CAS.

She highlighted the importance of collaborating on research into technology and industrialization in developing countries and on China’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme. She invited colleagues from across Oxford to join in the next phase of collaborative partnership with CAS. She also documented the achievement of previous collaborations, which included fostering deeper ties in establishing and disseminating policies.

Mr Weiping congratulated both centres for strengthening their collaboration. He explained that the MoU would help the two sides to serve government policy and develop innovative ideas with a significant positive impact.

Oxford University Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research Professor Ian Walmsley said the MoU was a good start for further research, adding that he hoped cooperation between the two sides could serve as a bridge between Oxford University and the CAS for academic exchange and research cooperation.

ODID Head of Department Professor Chris Adams added his congratulations. He said he was looking forward to more success from the partnership.

Professor Pan highlighted the past success of the joint efforts by the two centres, which culminated in the founding of the annual Sino-UK Innovation and Development Forum. After the success of the inaugural conference last year, he said he was pleased that planning for the second forum was already under way.

Professor Fu thanked all in attendance to witness the signing, including TMCD staff, ODID colleagues and students, representatives from the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom and the CAS Personnel Bureau.
