OPHI to host Amartya Sen for lecture on ‘Democracy and Social Decisions’

The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) at ODID will host Nobel laureate Amartya Sen for a Distinguished Public Lecture entitled ‘Democracy and Social Decisions’ on 18 January at the Sheldonian Theatre.

The lecture will be chaired by the Rt Hon Lord Patten of Barnes, Chancellor of the University.

The lecture marks the publication this month of a significantly expanded edition of Professor Sen’s classic 1970 book, Collective Choice and Social Welfare.

Professor Amartya Sen is Lamont University Professor and Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University. He was awarded the Nobel prize in economics in 1998.
