ODID DPhils Present at 6th European Conference on African Studies 2015

Seven ODID doctoral students presented their work to audiences of international academics working across the discipline at ECAS 2015, the 6th European Conference on African Studies, held at the Sorbonne in Paris earlier this month.

Dan Hodgkinson convened a panel titled, ‘Student Protesters and Social Change: plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose?’. Dan’s panel explored the ways in which young people, through their experiences in higher education, develop politicised ideologies that have been used to agitate for radical political change.

DPhils Georgia Cole, Nelson Oppong, Jean-Benoit Falisse, Chloe Lewis, Zainab Usman and Akin Iwilade presented on other topics, including faith-based responses to sexual and gender-based violence, contemporary Nigerian economic reform, oil politics in Ghana, social accountability within health centres in central Africa, political mobilisation among diasporas, and the development of Eritrean cycling cultures.
