Nikita Sud Interviewed on Award of Nobel Peace Prize to Indian, Pakistani Activists

Nikita Sud, Associate Professor of Development Studies at ODID, was interviewed by Bloomberg about the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai.

The article speculated on the degree to which the award might impact on traditionally hostile relations between the two countries.

Declaring the award, the Nobel Committee said it "regards it as an important point for a Hindu and a Muslim, an Indian and a Pakistani, to join in a common struggle for education and against extremism.”

Nikita commented that, “Alone, Malala and Satyarthi are both great individuals whose work in education with young people links them. But it’s too simplistic to boil down their identities to Hindus, Muslims, Indians and Pakistanis - and makes them part of their national jingoism, which neither have chosen to do.”

The article also ran online in the Chicago Tribune, the StarPhoenix and Arab News.
