New Blog Series: Sociology of Citizenship edited by Indrajit Roy

The department today is launching a new series on its blog, Debating Development, exploring the Sociology of Citizenship.

The seres is edited by ODID JRF Indrajit Roy with the assistance of DPhil student Luisa Enria.

Political theorists, sociologists and anthropologists are increasingly open to the idea that citizenship goes beyond the legal status conferred by states upon individuals in a national political community.

The contributors to the series will focus on the concrete, empirical ways in which people make meaning of citizenship and the manner in which they forge and imagine membership in the political community. Contributors will draw on their ongoing research in different parts of the world, including South Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America.

The series is being run jointly with Politics in Spires, the blog of the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford and the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Cambridge.
