New Blog Post: Kirrily Pells Discusses Female Genital Mutilation

In the latest post to ODID's blog, Debating Develoment, Kirrily Pells looks at how efforts to end female genital mutliation (FGM) are faring in Ethiopia.

She argues that, despite efforts at eradication, FGM continues in part because there are strong fears within communities that uncircumcised girls won’t be able to marry well. Building more opportunities for girls, particularly in terms of education and livelihood opportunities, is therefore an important tool in tackling the problem.
