MSc GGD Students Launch Diplomatic Speaker Lecture Series

Students of the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy have launched a new speaker series entitled Diplomacy in Times of Change, dedicated to the study and understanding of diplomacy in the 21st century.

This lecture series will bring established diplomatic practitioners to the Department to discuss their real-world experiences in negotiation and statecraft in international politics today.

The first lecture in the series takes place on Monday February 6, when Joachim Baron von Marschall, Head of the Economic Affairs Department at the German Embassy, will give a talk on “Solving the Crisis in the Eurozone and Modern Diplomacy.”

The lectures will be held monthly at ODID. The series is chaired by Dr Corneliu Bjola, University Lecturer in Diplomatic Studies.

Since the lectures seek to enhance the student’s understanding of modern-day diplomacy by learning firsthand from the professional experiences of the speaker, the lecture format will be somewhat informal and is intentionally designed so that the guest speaker can address the areas of diplomacy he or she deems most relevant to the conversation. They lectures are off-record at the discretion of the speaker.
