MPI Peer Network Holds Side Event at UN General Assembly

The Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network held a special side-event to coincide with the High Level Meetings of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly on 24 September.

The event addressed the future of multidimensional poverty measurement in the context of the post-2015 development agenda.

ODID's Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) is the Network Secretariat.

Panelists working at the forefront of poverty measurement made the case for a new multidimensional poverty index (MPI) 2015+ (also described as an MPI 2.0) to support the post-2015 development goals. The MPI2015+ would build on the success of the global MPI but would require better and more frequent data; the Network echoed calls for a ‘data revolution’ and suggested that a brief, inexpensive survey could be regularly conducted, with questions on key, global indicators as well as those tailored to the national context
