Miles Tendi Writes Guardian Comment on Relations between Zuma and Mugabe

ODID's Miles Tendi has written a comment piece for the Guardian on relations between South African President Jacob Zuma and Zimababwe's Robert Mugabe.

According to Tendi, there is mistrust in Mugabe's Zanu-PF party towards Zuma, whose recent reelection as leader of the ANC means he will retain his role as southern African regional facilitator of political reforms in Zimbabwe. For its part, the Zuma camp alleges Zanu-PF has secretly aided attempts to undermine the South African leader's presidency.

The article looks at the implications of these tensions for elections in Zimbabwe later this year.

Miles Tendi is Departmental Lecturer in African History and Politics. His book, Making History in Mugabe's Zimbabwe: Politics, Intellectuals and the Media, was published in 2010.
