Former ODID DPhil Annette Idler Awarded 2015 CRS Cedric Smith Prize

Congratulations to Annette Idler, who has been awarded the 2015 Cedric Smith Prize for the best piece of peace and conflict research (broadly defined) by a UK-based student.

The prize is awarded by the Conflict Research Society.

Annette won for her paper entitled 'Complex Cooperation: Shifting Alliances among Rebels, Paramilitaries and Criminals'.

The evaluation panel, which included editors of major political science journals, such as the Journal of Peace Research, praised Annette's ‘very interesting use of primary field research to convincingly demonstrate the fluid nature of relationships between violent non-state armed groups.’

They also stated that the work 'breaks new ground in the field of peace and conflict research and the analysis is presented in a very clear and accessible manner.’

Annette completed her DPhil at ODID earlier this year. She is currently Director of Studies at the Changing Character of War Programme, Pembroke College, University of Oxford and a Research Associate at the Department of Politics and International Relations.
