Dr Corneliu Bjola Shortlisted for New Student Union Teaching Award

Dr Corneliu Bjola has been chosen as one of five shortlisted nominees for the Oxford University Student Union Teaching Award of 'Innovation in Teaching' in the Social Sciences Division.

Dr Bjola is University Lecturer in Diplomacy and teaches on the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy.

The new awards, which are entirely student-led, were set up both to recognise great teaching at Oxford and to help engage students more effectively in their academic experience. They are also used to support good practice at the university, with winners and nominees invited by the organisers of the award to further talks about their teaching methods.

In its first year, the awards received 330 nominations across the divisions, with more than 400 students contributing. Students were able to nominate their teachers in two categories: Most Acclaimed Lecturer and Innovation In Teaching.

The Innovation in Teaching category, for which Dr Bjola was shortlisted, recognises tutors who:

  • use new and interesting techniques to engage and educate students.
  • are responsive to student concerns and difficulties and aid the individuals in overcoming their problems.
  • use flexible methods to communicate their point, leaving the student with a strong grasp of their subject area and a desire to learn more.

The final winners will be announced shortly.
