Call for volunteers: 2016 DSA conference in Oxford 12-14 Sep

ODID is seeking volunteers to help out at the 2016 Conference of the Development Studies Association, which we are hosting at the Examination Schools in Oxford on 12-14 September.

Whether on the registration desk, advising on basic presentation technology issues or giving people directions, volunteers will play a vital role in ensuring that the 600 delegates are welcomed to the conference and shown the best of the university, Oxford and DSA.

The volunteer tasks will include:

  • rotating shifts at the reception desk (usually one 2.5-3 hour shift a day per person)

  • looking after the presentation AV of panels (very basic care: usually entails transferring PPT files to the presentation computer from USB sticks, making sure the beamer has been switched on, that the speakers are working etc)

  • ushering and guiding at the beginning of events and breaks and afterwards

  • operating the roving mics during plenary Q&A sessions

On the day before the event starts the conference organisers, NomadIT, will train all volunteers on using the tablets for reception, managing the AV in panel rooms, familiarising themselves with the conference information such as the timetable, venue etc. Training usually takes about 2.5 hours.

In return for their help at the conference, volunteers will have full access to all the sessions when not working; tea/coffee and lunch for the days of the event; and an exclusive souvenir conference T-shirt!
