Call for Papers: Exploring Migration Dynamics: Networks and Beyond

The Internatinal Migration Institute is holding a major conference on the theme of Exploring Migration Dynamics: Networks and Beyond on 24-26 September 2013.

The conference arises out of the IMI's Theorizing the Evolution of European Migration Systems (THEMIS) project and takes place at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. Thomas Faist, Douglas Massey and Ewa Morawska will give the keynote speeches.

THEMIS researchers have been taking a fresh look at how patterns of migration to Europe develop, focusing on the conditions that encourage initial moves by pioneer migrants to become established migration systems (or not). Based on field research, the project has aimed to bridge the theories on the initiation and continuation of migration, and to integrate the concept of agency in a systems theory approach.

The themes for the 2013 concluding conference are:

  • Emergence and Development of Migration Systems
  • Feedback Processes in Migration
  • Migrants as Social Actors

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 January 2013.
