Patterns, determinants, and effects of internal migration among young adults in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam

Maria’s thesis focuses on three research questions related to youth migration and human development in four low- and middle-income countries that she aims to address by drawing on the longitudinal data collected as part of the Young Lives study.

The first research question is related to how transitions to adulthood relate to patterns of internal migration among 19 year olds. The second research question is on the impact of socio-emotional skills in youth on the decision to migrate. Finally, the third research question relates to the impact of internal migration on cognitive and socio-emotional skills of young adults.
